Derek Frohlich dominated his hometown track of I-95 Havasu Speedway in the first ever Western Winternationals. 24 cars started the event, with Jack Madrid leading the way after a 6 car inversion. The top 5 became were nose to tail as they diced and sliced their way through traffic. Jonathan Mawhinney took the lead with Frohlich breathing down his neck. After a car spun 25 laps into the 50 lap event, the field reset. Mawhinney could not get a handle on his car after the caution. This opened the door for Frohlich as he led the way with Broc Murphy coming into the fray. 2 more cautions came out for single car incidents. This gave time for Zach Zimmerly to get back into the top-5 with a side by side battle with Jonathan Mawhinney. Frohlich did a victory burnout ending with a roar from the sold-out standing room only Havasu Speedway. “It was amazing, I drove my butt off, hard work pays off. It feels good to get any win, but it’s great to win in my hometown.” said Frohlich. Broc Murphy came in second, after an impressive and clean run, “It was loose coming off, I had something for 99, but I was restarting in 3rd gear and not second.” Jimmy Hansen came in 3rd, followed by Zach Zimmerly, and Jonathan Mawhinney. In Bandoleros Tyler Fabozzi dominated the entire event and is eyeing his move to Legends in the near future.
