Rice and Roberts Take Memorial Weekend Legends
Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Michigan Legends Series
The Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Michigan Legends Series made two stops this past Memorial Day weekend with the first at the Spartan Speedway and the second at Toledo Speedway.
Friday night saw the series at Spartan for a great night of racing to kick off an exciting weekend. Three heat races were run with Levi Rouster taking heat race number one over Matt Todd and Randy Gallagher Sr. Chris Perry took the second heat race over Randy Gallagher Jr. and Skip Krassa. The third heat race saw Brian Knuckles take the checkers over Rick Kilbourn and Chance Rice.
The feature race was red-flagged before the first lap could be completed due to a six car tangle just before the start/finish line and the completion of lap 1. Two cars were not able to continue while two others made repairs and re-joined the field at the rear of the pack. With the field re-aligned Chance Rice brought them down for the re-start. Rice bolted into the lead with Knuckles in second and Rouster in third place putting steady pressure on Rice for the lead. The top three stayed the same the entire race until lap 23 when Rouster got around Knuckles for second spot but with the yellow coming out for a one car spin before the lap could be completed Rouster had to go back to third and was not able to get back around Knuckles again. The feature race was slowed 5 times for caution due to one car spins and minor tangles.
Rice was able to hang on for his second feature win this season over Brian Knuckles, Levi Rouster, Chris Perry, Matt Todd, Jerry Warden, Tyler Rycenga, Tony Monge, Randy Gallagher Jr., and Kenton Taylor rounding out the top ten.
Sunday afternoon saw the series move to the Toledo Speedway as part of the Gold Cup race for Super Late Models. Heat race number one went to Jerry Warden over Rick Kilbourn, and Cullen Camasta. Heat Two was won by Rookie contender Tyler Rycenga over Chris Perry, and Matt Todd. Levi Rouster took heat race number three over Adam Roberts, and Sloan Henderson.
The feature race was action packed on the tight little 1/5 mile with some very close racing and a few caution flags but in the end, Adam Roberts was able to take the win over Sloan Henderson, Chris Perry, Chance Rice, and Matt Todd rounding out the top five. Sixth through tenth went to Mickey Kudlicki, Brandon Mahoney, Jake Dunsmore, Tyler Rycenga, and Jerry Warden.
All in all, a great weekend of racing for the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Michigan Legends Series with the series now moving on to the 3/8 mile Angola Motor Speedway in Angola, Indiana on Saturday, May 31st. Come on down for some great racing action and we’ll see You at the races.
