2008 Summer Shootout Dates Released
Officials Drop July 4th Week Double In Favor of 10-Week Schedule

Every summer for the past 14 years, Legends and Bandolero racers from across the country flock to Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina for the most prestigious events of the year for the small-car class of racing. The Summer Shootout netted nearly 200 cars in seven divisions of Legends and Bandoleros over 10 televised events in 2007, making the Shootout the place to race in the country.
LegendsNation.com has confirmed the 2008 schedule for the 15th Annual Summer Shootout, which will start on Tuesday, June 10th and conclude on Tuesday, August 12th.
Different from the last few years is the Fourth of July week. Officials usually schedule a Tuesday-Wednesday two-day show for two nights of excitement and fireworks for the drivers and fans. Roger Slack, Director of Events at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, confirmed with LegendsNation.com this week that the Shootout this year will not do the double, and instead will run all ten events on consecutive Tuesdays during the Summer months.
Another change this season from last year is the addition of a season-long sponsor. Quaker Steak & Lube, a motorsports-themed restaurant chain, has placed their name as the primary sponsor for the complete Shootout.
Last season, officials changed the format of the Shootout points championship by having a NASCAR-style “chase” format, where the top 10 drivers within their division after the seventh event raced in a three-race run off, called “The Sizzler,” to determine the champion. The new format received mixed reviews from participants during and after the 2007 Shootout. At press time, LegendsNation.com could not confirm if the Sizzler format would return or whether the original format or another format will be used in the 2008 edition.
