John Stancill Prevails Amidst Controversy

John Stancill’s weekend of racing proved successful once again as he added to his long list of wins in the 2007 season.

In preparation for the 600 Racing regional qualifier on August 10th, the Nick Pistone Racing Team returned once again to the 3/8th mile Anderson Motor Speedway.  Since John had captured the win at his previous visit to the competitive short track, he was forced to take the winners penalty and start on the tail of his heat race.

After pulling off a “back to the front” charge and capturing the heat race win, John started on the outside of the front row, next to fellow competitor Justin Ashley.

The race, which saw 5 lead changes among 3 drivers within the first ten laps, was a nail biter until the checkered flag flew.  It all came down to the final lap as Stancill and Ashley took the white flag door-to-door.

As the competitors entered the first turn, Ashley drifted up to the high groove, allowing Stancill and third place driver, Wesley Thompson to make another bid for the win.  Going into turn three, Thompson moved along side of Stancill, bringing Ashley with him.  And the group formed a 3 wide challenge for the lead exiting turn four.  At the line, John Stancill captured the checkered flag in his #20 Extreme Expeditions Legends car.  It was his third win in three attempts at the famed “Supertrack of the Carolinas”.

“We really like the Anderson track, we seem to have a good handle on it, but winning this race took a lot of hard work.” stated Stancill “I know that it gives us some really good momentum going into this regional qualifier.  So we are really looking forward to some great racing this weekend”

The NPR Teams championship momentum continued to grow Saturday night as they returned once again to the Friendship Speedway in Elkin, NC.  John hadn’t been to the speedway since the early part of the season.  However, the hiatus didn’t hinder the Semi-Pro Points leader from being successful as he qualified his car in the fourth position for the feature race.

After settling into the fifth position early in the event, he quickly began to pick off the competition in an effort to get to the front.  But after capturing the lead on lap ten, he developed an oil leak which led to some handling problems.

Ty Dillon took over the lead for the mid-point of the event and led up until near the end.  The two young drivers raced hard on the final lap, but Stancill was able to work his way around Dillon’s machine to take the win.

The team will now set their sights on the upcoming 600 Racing Regional Qualifier at the Anderson Motor Speedway this weekend.   The gates will open at 5:00 pm for Saturday night’s events, and the feature races will begin at 8:00pm.
