Tyler Millwood Gets First Win of Season at Lowe’s Motor Speedway
Fireworks were flying for the Millwood family when young Tyler Millwood earned his first win in his No. 31 INEX Legends car on Wednesday night.
The week started off on a rough note when Tyler ran a not so memorable run on Tuesday night at Round four of the Summer Shootout at Lowes Motor Speedway. Millwood started 11th in his No. 31 INEX Legends Young Lions feature and had made his way up into the top five when he was involved in an incident with the No. 35 car; which resulted in a “popped left front tire…it knocked the valve stem out of it.” Then on a restart, “two cars got together and [we] got tangled up with them.” To add insult to injury, the Kingston, GA native was later black flagged for an unpleasant confrontation with the No. 89 car. When asked about his night, Tyler simply smiled and said, “We’ll fix it and run better tomorrow.”
And run better he did!
In Round Five of the Summer Shootout July 4th Celebration, Tyler was able to put the past behind him and bring home his first victory of the year. Millwood started in the fifth position and held it until Lap 4, when the two leaders got together. Tyler made a daring move to the low side and snagged the lead. “Everybody went to the outside; I jumped to the bottom, got out front and kept going.” The 16 year-old driver was able to hold on to the lead for the remainder of the race and make it to the checkered flag, despite that fact that he may not have had the fastest car in the field. “My car wasn’t the best in the world, [the o. 11 car] was a little better center off…I tried to keep it on the bottom and was able to keep the lead.”
You can see Tyler defend his title this Tuesday for Round Six of the Summer Shootout at Lowes Motor Speedway.
