Glenski Snares 5th Victory of Summer Shootout
Ryan Glenski walked off with his fifth victory in Lowe's Motor Speedway's Summer Shootout, maneuvering into the lead on the fourth lap in Tuesday's 20-lap feature and never relinquishing it.
The 14-year-old Mooresville, N.C., driver started fourth and shot into second on the first lap on the quarter-mile track. Three laps later Glenski assumed the lead for good.
"I just wanted to take it easy the first few laps because everybody was all bunched up together," Glenski said in explaining his race strategy. "We came up through there, we were in the lead, and we had a bunch of green flag laps. On lap 16, they had a caution, so we got all bunched up again. I was afraid Clint [King, who finished second] was going to get into me a little bit because he's battling the points with me head-to-head. But we got through there and we brought a 'W' home."
Glenski said he didn't have any problems with his car.
"It is what it is," he commented after his 19th victory this season. "Some nights it might be loose. Some nights it might be tight. I can drive it any way."
With only two races remaining in this year's Summer Shootout, Glenski said he doesn't intend to change his race strategy for the championship battle. He'll follow the same game plan he did Tuesday night; stay out of trouble the first few laps, take it easy, and if he takes the lead, "just stay steady and don't go out of control."
